Alberto was born and raised in Barcelona. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in the Faculty of Biology and graduated in the Faculty of Medicine from the University of Barcelona where he was also a teaching assistant for five years. Before moving to Northwestern, Alberto did his first post-doctoral training at UConn Health Center in Nada Zecevic Lab, where he studied the development of the human cerebral cortex and the origin of multiple neurodevelopmental disorders. Alberto is interested in the impact of DNA methylation on motor neuron development and the understanding how the ALS/FTD causal repeat expansion in C9orf72 leads to neurotoxicity. Alberto is currently funded by a postdoctoral fellowship from AFM-Telethon. Outside the lab, Alberto enjoys cooking, discovering new places to eat authentic local food, traveling, and playing soccer.
The lab is superbly located in the downtown Chicago area, a few minutes away from Lake Michigan,
the shopping and restaurants of Magnificent Mile, within the historical Montgomery Ward Memorial Building.
