Ryan was born in Bangor, Maine, and grew up in several cities along the East Coast. He completed his BA at the University of Pennsylvania, concentrating in Neurobiology. While there, he worked first in Dr. Timothy Linksvayer’s evolutionary biology group, and later Dr. J. Nicholas Betley’s neural circuits lab. In June 2017, he joined Dr. Mark Cookson’s group at the National Institute on Aging as a post-baccalaureate fellow. There, he worked on gene expression in Parkinson’s Disease, and discovered his interest in neurodegenerative diseases and stem cell research models. In 2018, he began his MS in Biotechnology, and joined the Kiskinis lab at the end of the year; he currently works closely with Beth to study the cell biology of ALS. Outside of the lab, Ryan enjoys hiking, cooking for himself and others, and traveling to new cities.
