Francesco was born and raised in Rome, Italy where he gained his BSc and MSc in Genomic Biotechnology at University of Rome - La Sapienza. He then moved to Genoa to pursue his PhD at University of Genoa, in Biotechnology and Translational Medicine in the lab of Prof. Paolo Malatesta, studying mouse modeling of high-grade glioma and retargeted oncolytic viro-immunotherapy. Francesco joined Northwestern as a post-doctoral fellow to investigate the perturbation of the proteostasis network in human motor neurons derived from ALS patients. Aside from his scientific interests, Francesco enjoys music, jazz and European romantic pianists in particular. He is an amateur pianist, loves wandering around taking photographs with his camera, and supports FC Inter Milan since before he was born.
