Thao grew up in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam and moved to the US when she was 18. She received her joint Bachelor's degree in Bioengineering and Materials Science & Engineering at University of California, Berkeley in 2019. During her undergrad, she was working in Dr.Yang Dan's lab, where she studied pyramidal neuron projections in the prefrontal cortex and their effects on impulsive behavior. Her experience and curiosity have drawn Thao into using iPSCs as a model to combat neurodegenerative diseases. In December of 2020, Thao joined the Kiskinis Lab with keen interest in studying different proteins and their ability to mature or rejuvenate motor neurons that are derived from iPSCs. In her free time, Thao enjoys running, hiking, and playing jigsaw puzzles.
