Matthew was born and raised in Exeter, California. He earned his B.S in Genetics from the University of California, Davis in 2013 and his M.S. from the University of Oregon Bioinformatics and Genomics Master's Program in 2018. Before coming to Northwestern University, he investigated novel mechanisms of translational regulation at Stowers Institute for Medical Research and explored the interaction between pregnancy and rheumatoid arthritis disease activity at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland. In the Kiskinis Lab, he is working to elucidate transcriptome-wide changes and NMD perturbations in ALS. Outside of the lab, he enjoys cooking, going to concerts, and attending sporting events.
