Kelly was born and raised in Corona del Mar, California. She completed her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and Psychology from the University of Colorado Boulder. Since moving to Northwestern University in 2016, her research has centered around the cellular and molecular mechanisms of learning and memory and how these processes are altered in neurodevelopmental disorders. She received her M.S. degree in the laboratory of Dr. Anis Contractor for her work on Fragile-X Syndrome, in which she characterized the functional development of patient-derived iPSC-derived neurons using patch-clamp electrophysiology. Kelly joined NUIN in 2018. Her current work focuses on how mutations in potassium channels disrupt the development of intrinsic and network excitability in epileptic patient iPSC-derived neurons. Outside of lab, Kelly enjoys long city walks, cooking with friends, and doodling in SketchBook.
